Description: Michael Rader, who was honored as a journeyman smith June 2006, is best known for creating dramatic swords and daggers with woodwork that is beyond compare. Recently, he put his attention to creating chef's knives. The results are exceptional.
Like his hunting knives, this santoku was pre-tested for edge flex and cutting ability before assembly. The santoku is the traditional Japanese chef's knife. This comfortable design is a fantastic multipurpose chopper. The santoku has quickly become the new favorite for chefs in the West.
The bolster is integral -- a technique that, while common in production knives, is very rare in handmade knives due to the difficulty of implementation. The handle is formed from spalted maple burl with curly koa wood accents. By using stabilized woods, Michael is able to combine the beauty of natural wood with durability. The knife has perfect balance and feels exceptional in the hand.
