Description: This knife was made by Seattle native, Bhakti Sa. Bhakti has been apprenticing under David Lisch and it is clear he is a maker to watch. His work was extremely popular at the 2015 Seattle International Knife Show. His understanding of chef's knives is exceptional.
This chef's knife is likely to become the primary knife used in your kitchen. The wide blade gives plenty of finger clearance when working over a cutting board. The nicely arced blade has a perfect shape for an efficient rocking chop. Whether chopping onions, mincing garlic, or slicing meats, this knife will be a perfect choice.
Bhakti hand forged the damascus to shape beginning with 1080 and 15N20 carbon steels. This ensures a keen long lasting edge as well as exceptional beauty! The high contrast pattern is immediately captivating. The blade and bolster are made from one solid piece of damascus. Though integral knives are regularly done in production work, creating an integral bolster in a custom setting is extremely difficult and shows the maker's skill at its best.
Sa formed the elegantly contoured handle from spalted box elder burl. The workmanship is beautiful, and the wood chosen is gorgeous! This stunning piece of box elder burl shows both red and blond sections, reminiscent of a sunset in the evening. Rather than black lines, spalting in box elder results in these dramatic colors. It is entirely captivating! Contours ensure a comfortable and safe grip. Alternating silicon bronze and black G10 surround a larger Ws pattern damascus spacer. This combination is particularly dramatic. As well being beautiful, the spacers assist the wood to adjust to temperature and humidity changes. By using stabilized woods, Sa ensures the knife will hold up well to the high demands of either a professional or home kitchen.
A gorgeous piece built for serious use, yet one of the more dramatic kitchen knives that I have come across.
