Description: Danish knifemaker Michael West has a tremendous sense of design and craftsmanship. He's been making knives since 1980 and has won multiple awards for his designs in Danish, Scandinavian, and international contests. Michael uses nothing but first class steel and exquisite materials in his knives.
This mammoth molar fixed blade is a beautiful example of Michael's work. Given his unique designs and level of craftsmanship, it's no surprise it won Best Fixed Blade at the Helsinki 2014 Knife Show. He also won a medal (sixth photo) for this knife, presented to him by the Queen of Denmark for his artistic talent! In the fifth photo, the Queen of Denmark shakes Michael's hand in congratulations.
The mirror polished blade is formed from high performing RWL-34 stainless steel. RWL-34 is a premium powder metallurgy cutlery steel manufactured by ERASTEEL in Söderfors, Sweden. Because it is manufactured from rapidly solidified powders, the microstructure of the steel is much more uniform. This gives the steel much higher strength and resistance to cracking while maintaining very high wear resistance.
The handle is made from a large section of ancient mammoth molar inlaid into a Argentium silver frame. Besides making a more durable, harder and more pure alloy of silver, Argentium silver is tarnish resistant. The molar inlays show off brown, black, green. cream, and white tones. The sleek lines and curves, in combination with the large mammoth molar sections, offer a particularly dramatic presentation.
This knife includes a presentation display stand and a black zipper pouch that fits both the knife and stand. The display stand combines a fine ebony wood base with an Argentium silver support.
