Description: This Mel Nishiuchi folder is a spectacular knife!
The wharncliff style blade is formed from ATS-34 stainless steel. It features and heirloom quality satin finish and a clean flat grind. The wharncliffe shape provides a detail-oriented tip with a long, nearly flat edge. The blade has smooth action and is easily opened with the thumb disc. It was heat treated by Paul Bos.
The scales are formed from petrified palmwood from Louisiana. 100 million years ago, what is now Louisiana was a lush tropical forest. Trees that fell into mineral-rich mud before having a chance to decay became petrified wood, which is actually a quartz-like stone. The organic wood cells were replaced over time by minerals, often retaining the shape of the original prehistoric wood. Petrified wood is called the most beautiful of fossils. The spotted look of palmwood is caused by fossilized rod-like structures within the original wood. Mokume gane bolsters were forged from brass, nickel silver, and copper. They are dovetailed to the petrified scales for a perfect fit. The titanium liners and backbar are anodized to match.
Exceptional fit and finish throughout!
