Description: This Damascus pattern ikebana knife features a chisel ground edge that is exceptional for detailed, precision cuts such as those required for Ikebana. Ikebana is a Zen flower arranging style that strives for simplicity and naturalness. So as to maintain the freshness of the flowers, the stems are cut under water using this traditionally styled knife. This technique will also work for traditional Western flower arranging. This blade style is also used for a wide variety of woodworking jobs.
The 3 1/3" blade has a cutting edge that measures 1.8". The cutting edge (hagane) is forged from blue carbon steel and is heat treated to Rc64 (extremely hard) for a keen, long-lasting edge. The special layered jigane (soft metal forming the body of the blade) was made by forge-welding over 30 layers of metal into a complex and unique Damascus pattern. Each blade is unique. The scabbard and handle are made from Japanese pagoda wood. Captivating for the eye and comfortable in the hand.
